Creation Cycle: The Story of All Things

What is Sin?

Lesson 12 Introduction

In this lesson we begin a conversation about sin. Sin is, by definition, lawlessness, which means sin is a way of saying that we do not need God, or at best, that we do not want him. We may be tempted to excuse sin in light of grace, or brush it aside as “not a big deal.” The reality is this: sin is a big deal because God is a big deal. Our sinful actions are hideous precisely because God is glorious. Our thoughts, words, beliefs, and actions, large or small, paint a picture of our love, or lack of love, for God.

As you teach your kids about sin, you’re teaching them about their need for a savior. You’re laying the groundwork for them to understand and cherish the Gospel. It’s a difficult lesson to teach, but it’s SO worth it, because it will allow you to shine the light of the Gospel all the brighter once they understand the darkness of their sin.
